We were asked by client Morgan Sindall to make a movie of the CAB lift at the new Control Tower presently being built at Manchester International Airport. The crane is 250ft high and the CAB unit weighs in at 155 tonnes.

The lift was undertaken by Port Services Group of Invergordon, Scotland. The lift height from the ground to the top of the tower tube is 57 metres and the lift was completed in just 34 minutes.

The camera was mounted on a tripod on the steel balcony of the existing Control Tower. The weather was quite windy and you can see the CAB unit being blown around.

The movie was compiled using 540 separate images which were "shot" on time lapse photography at 1 shot every 4 seconds. They were then compiled into the movie which runs for 1 minute 22 seconds.
